The Wood Chipper

The Biomass boiler has been in operation at Croft Castle for over 7 years and a regular supply of wood is required to keep the system running. Timber is brought from the estate and stacked in the wood yard where it awaits the mammoth wood chipper which is employed to reduce all the logs to wood chip.

Logs this size are fed into a giant rotor with grinding teeth; the logs are then reduced to wood chip that can be fed into the biomass burner; all these logs come from the Croft Estate
It take about a day to reduce all those logs to wood chip, enough to see the Castle and some out buildings supplied with heating and hot water for the best part of the winter months.
From huge logs to small wood chips.
