This was initially an education area

Children were introduced to creatures that could be found in the woodland

Old tree trunks were piled up as habitat for insects & bugs

The area was small but needed regular maintenance

There was room however to expand but it was very overgrown.

Once cleared ideas on what would make a good play area were developed

Natural Materials were used

The idea was to have it in keep with the theme of Croft Castle.

The ubiquitous NT den building area

But more climbing and clambering ideas were installed

Swings suspended from high in the trees were a big hit.

All the installations needed to be tested

Sometimes the testing was quite intensive.

Very intensive.

Everyone needed to be satisfied that they were safe to use.

Some final touches were added with these novel stepping blocks.

Eventually in August 2014 it was ready for the public.

What had once been an overgrown strip of woodland became a play area.

The area is continually monitored to ensure it is safe.

New ideas are tried out

This was the planting up of a willow tunnel installed in the winter of 2015
